Quality Targets
Quality Standards
Through the Pacific Northwest Wheat Quality Council, US Wheat Associates, and the state wheat commissions of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho have encouraged the adoption of quality standards. These standards are used by the wheat industry to verify that the quality potential of varieties grown in the region will produce the high quality end-use characteristics that the area has become known for.
By market class, the standards have been developed using the historic database of the USDA-ARS Western Wheat Quality Lab. Aggregate data of recognized good quality varieties were analyzed for various accepted wheat quality parameters for the class. These standards were adopted at the annual Pacific Northwest Wheat Quality Council meetings and are reviewed periodically.
